Alton Adams, 1943 - 2002

Alton Adams

Founder Alton Adams, who held the office of President for many years, passed away on March 5, 2002.  Alton dedicated to enhancing the lives of children through mentoring and athletics. Alton touched the lives of countless youth in his lifetime.  South Fremont NJB is committed to continuing Alton's legacy.  Alton's widow Cynthia only recently retired in 2007 as the Treasurer for South Fremont NJB, having stayed on for five years after Alton passed away. We always appreciate Cynthia's support and dedication to the families of South Fremont NJB.

NJB Mission Statement

The mission of the NJB program is to: Inspire our youth; regardless of race, color, creed, or national origin. Practice the ideals of health, citizenship and character. To implant the game elements of safety, sanity, and intelligent supervision; and to keep the welfare of the player first, foremost, and entirely free of adult lust for glory. Emphasize teamwork for all participants.

NJB League Background

South Fremont NJBNational Junior Basketball is a nonprofit organization that was founded by Dennis Murphy, Jr. in 1984. Murphy was previously a coach at Garden Grove High School in Orange County California, when he had vision of a youth basketball league based on sportsmanship and player development.

NJB has grown into a national youth league with chapters in over 200 cities in 15 states. NJB offers three Divisional Programs for boys and girls in 3rd through 8th grade. The High School Program is for 9th through 12th grade players who do not play for their high school teams.  NJB also offers the All-Net Program for the advanced players in 5th through 8th grade.

South Fremont Chapter

The South Fremont NJB chapter was founded in 1988 by seven dedicated parents. Alton & Cynthia Adams, Lynn & Joe Wright, Rick Sera, Bill and Peggy Cole were the founders.

Thanks to many, South Fremont NJB has blossomed to over 270 players, including our high school division.

South Fremont is a non-profit organization dedicated to developing young people through the sport of basketball. South Fremont NJB boundaries cover the following zip codes: 94538, 94539, and 94560.
